VAC: Frequently asked questions about the Valve's Anti-Cheat

Valve Anti-Cheat

Also known as VAC is the native anti-cheat of Valve Corporation as a Steam game platform component. Developed initially for Counter-Strike 1.4 way back in 2002. It has already banned millions of steam accounts. Currently, it is being used over 60 games under Steam.

When a user joins a Valve Anti-Cheat secured server with a cheat installed, the VAC will permanently ban the user from using the servers.

How does the VAC work?

VAC works by using multiple blacklisted cheat signatures as a basis for the detection. This is the very reason why free cheats are more detectable compared to private cheat versions. Informants can submit cheats to the VAC development team freely via their email address.

How is VAC different from a game ban and server ban?

Game Ban

Game bans occur when manual observers have agreed collectively to ban you from a game via in-game footage. Currently, CS:GO is implementing this as Overwatch. Selected players may be given a chance to view one gameplay of a suspected cheater.

Server Ban

A server ban is imposed by an administrator of a private server not related to VAC-Secured servers. A player may be banned in a server, but not get a VAC ban. Although it is also possible that if the server admin has recorded your game, they may submit a case to the valve developer team. You still have to be careful.

How can I bypass Valve Anti-Cheat?

Technically, VAC is not that strong compared to anti-cheats like Faceit, Easy Anti-Cheat, Gamersclub, and ESEA. You just have to be careful in finding the right cheat for you. Private cheats will have an advantage over public cheats as the codes are more unique. Creating your own cheat with your own code will definitely have an advantage over anything else. You have 100% control over it.

Although it is comparatively weaker, it does not mean that it is not something to underestimate. VAC development team has not yet disclosed the nature of its anti-cheat. With their delayed-ban protocol at your steam accounts, they will be very likely cautious with a false ban.
